In downtown Houston, the Tenneco Building (originally the Tennessee Building, now the El Paso Energy Building), opened in 1963. Designed by SOM’s Edward Charles Bassett, it rises 33 stories from the center of a city block, with an 80-foot plaza surrounding its square base.
