Say hello to these little rockstars, the @red.and.the.blue.duo ! When we got the little secret beach we’d found for Bruce and Wilson’s underwater adventure shoot in Lake Tahoe, the wind was whipping the waves high into the air, splashing off the rocky shore and hitting our skin with little drops of glacial spray as we hunted for the perfect spot to make all the magic happen. Because the wave activity was so high, and the water was sloshing uncontrollably along the shore’s edge, I knew we had to come up with a plan B as to where we could realistically do our shooting. I couldn’t have these guys stand in the shallow rocks along the edge anymore, since it was taken over by constantly moving whitecaps, blinding any chance my camera might have of seeing the scene from beneath the water. After some exploring in and under the water in the area, I found this perfect rock, about 25 feet out into the lake from the shore. It was only about 12 inches underwater and it was far enough out that the waves were breaking after they passed it on their way into the shore. Much calmer and more stable. It seemed like the perfect solution, but of course we had to consult with Bruce and Wilson to get their take on if this rock was of any interest to them, and see if they’d be happy and comfortable to stand on it in trade for some very delicious (and very wet! Because I kept them in my bathing suit! 🤣) slices of cheddar cheese. Lucky for us, Bruce + Wilson happily obliged and we all found ourselves neck deep in glittering clear water, bobbing around in the waves trying to get this shot. Persistence and determination are the only things that kept me balancing my 20+ pound camera rig in front of me as held my core so tight I thought I might pass out (hahahaha) and I struggled keep my gorgeous subjects in focus. I could never have done this without @samhaddixphoto swimming out with lights and helping keeping me afloat, Bruce + Wilson’s outrageously sweet and wonderful mom Jade holding up wet cheese in neck deep water, and Bruce + Wilson themselves and their epic amount of patience and impressive ‘stays’.
Sometimes it takes a village of love, dedication and total madness! 🤣
