Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris: We stand ready to play whatever part we can in restoring #NotreDameCathedral, a medieval masterpiece which stood tall for over 800 years. Our thoughts are with the people of France and those around the world to whom this building means so much.
This 1930s photograph by Ralph Deakin from the #RIBACollections shows the whinged ghoul on the cathedral’s great balustrade. The cathedral today is the result of work carried out over many centuries. Construction began in 1163, with restoration carried out by Jean-Baptiste Lassus and Eugene Viollet-le-Duc between 1841 and 1863.
