Do you think this weather is bad? From November 1898 through February of 1899, snow fell almost continuously in Summit County. Up to 20 feet of snow fell in some places. Most folks traveled only by snowshoes or cross country skis and saw only their closest neighbors that winter. Snow rotaries were commonplace on the front of trains, but railroad workers still had to shovel snow slides off the ice. Wrecks were common, just like the one seen here outside of Frisco.
