At a ceremony in Tokyo today, Tod Williams and Billie Tsien received the 2019 Praemium Imperiale International Arts Award for architecture. The prize, now in its 31st year, recognizes the importance of the arts across five disciplines: painting, sculpture, music, theater/film, and architecture. The founders of #TWBTA said they are “profoundly grateful. We were utterly surprised that the work we have created together and as a studio has been recognized by a country and culture that we so esteem. We only hope that we can continue to be worthy of this honor and the responsibility that it represents.” Photos courtesy of the Japan Art Association and the Praemium Imperiale International Arts Award.
